UCs don’t consider letters of recommendation.
UCSC uses a point system in order to determine admissions.
Also, the only “community involvement” that is considered is if you have 100+ hours of community service. If you have 100 hours, you get half the points, if you have 200 hours, you get full points.
Applicants are not awarded points for clubs or sports.
The essay is not considered, but is only scanned to see if there are points to be awarded for “overcoming hardship,” so it can be an AMAZING essay and it won’t help you a bit. The essays are only read for quality and content at UCLA, UCB and UCI.
Are you a California resident? If you aren’t, it’s going to be verrrry difficult to get in.
Your SAT scores are good, but I don’t know if they are good enough to make up for that low GPA. Also, if you have any D’s at all, it’s most likely a no. This year, they automatically rejected all applicants with any D’s, regardless of other information presented.
I’m providing the link to the score sheet so you can calculate your points. Be hard on yourself, because if you can’t be honest with yourself on this, you’re going to give yourself false hope.
Also, consider the fact that UCSC’s acceptance rate dropped 20% this year, and will most likely drop greatly next year. It is only going to get more competitive.
I’d say it’s a reach. GPA is the most important factor with the UCs, and if you have below a 3.0, you technically aren’t even “UC Eligible”
Not likely… that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.
Get the grades up. Good luck.
