Can I Probably Get Into These Schools?

UNC Chapel Hill, Bucknell, Lehigh, Boston College, Holy Cross, Penn State, Tufts, Trinity College
I would probably also need a scholarship since I’m paying my way through college but don’t qualify for financial aid
I have a 3.5 unweighted, a little over a 3.7 weighted
a death in the family explains my irregular/lower GPA
2 AP’s and 7 Honors, IBs or whatever aren’t offered here
jv soccer and varsity track for four years
I volunteered working with kids at a local hospital and loved it
I volunteered at another local hospital the year before
I’ve stood inches away from live surgery so that’s always a good topic to point out
Summer job
Strong recommendations
involved in Habitat for Humanity
2010 on first SATs, planning on trying for a 2100
I’m also very likable and excel in interviews

UNC is almost impossible to get into out of state unless you are close to a 4.0.
Bucknell, Boston College, Holy Cross, and Tufts all require a 3.7 or hgher so you stand excellent chances at these schools. Warning though: you must show interest by visiting and interviewing or you could easily get denied. Tufts in particular is famous for rejecting qualified candidates who are using them as a safety school.
The rest you should easily get into.

I really don’t know. Competition is very high and colleges are having financial problems. If you can afford full tuition, I think you’ll probably get in. Since you don’t qualify for financial aid, you’re chances are better actually thanks to the economic meltdown.
colleges don’t really care about your GPA. They care more about the classes you took. If you took really easy classes and got a 4.0, you’re not getting in. If you took challenging classes, a 3.5 is more than enough.Plus, the death in the family is a very understandable reason for the drop.
I’m not sure about your chances with Boston College. They’re trying to establish themselves as an elite school, so they’re paying more attention to scores that make them look better, than well balanced students. Bleh. I really hate their creepy policies.
Tufts is also really tough to get into with a lot of competition.
The rest of them should be easy for you to get into with your record. I would apply to more as a backup. You can’t be too careful.
